BEFORE YOU ARRIVE

A little preparation.
A smoother appointment.

Call before traveling to confirm your appointment, document requirements, and any applicable fees. Notarial acts are performed by Varinder Singh in his individual capacity as a Virginia notary public.

Documents commonly brought to a notary

Residents of Manassas, Fairfax, Gainesville, and surrounding Northern Virginia communities can call about notarization for prepared documents such as:

Requirements depend on the document and the receiving organization. Confirm the required notarial act and any witness requirements before your visit.

Identification to bring

Bring original, unexpired identification bearing your photograph and signature. Common options include a state-issued driver’s license or identification card, a U.S. passport book or card, or a foreign passport. Virginia law also lists certificates of U.S. citizenship or naturalization, an alien registration card with photograph, and a U.S. military card, subject to its identification requirements.

If your identification is expired, unavailable, or shows a different name, call before booking. Virginia law provides certain alternative identification methods and a limited expired-ID exception for residents of assisted living facilities or nursing homes; suitability must be checked for your circumstances.

Your appointment checklist

  1. Call with the document type, number of signers, and preferred appointment time.
  2. Bring the complete document with all pages and instructions from the receiving organization.
  3. Bring acceptable original identification for every signer.
  4. Arrange any required witnesses in advance; confirm their eligibility with the document recipient or your attorney.
  5. Wait to sign until the notary confirms what the requested act requires.
  6. Attend in person, with every person whose signature requires notarization, and confirm fees before service.

Frequently asked questions

Do I need witnesses?

Some documents require witnesses in addition to notarization. Ask the receiving organization or your attorney how many witnesses are needed and who may act as a witness. Call in advance about arrangements; witness availability is not guaranteed.

Should I sign before my appointment?

It is best to wait. An acknowledgment may concern an existing signature, while a sworn signing may require signing in the notary’s presence. Tell the notary if you have already signed so the appropriate requirements can be checked.

Can you certify a copy?

Ask before booking. Virginia permits copy certification for eligible documents that are not public records. Certified copies of birth, marriage, death, and other public records generally must come from the issuing authority. Bring the original document for review.

How do I book an emergency appointment?

Call (240) 653-7949, explain the document and your deadline, and wait for confirmation. Emergency requests may be made at any time; immediate or overnight availability is not guaranteed.

Does booking online mean remote notarization?

No. This page provides information for in-person appointments. A telephone call or online booking does not itself notarize a document.

Can the notary prepare documents or give legal advice?

Notarization does not include legal advice or document preparation. Bring documents prepared by you, the receiving organization, or your attorney. Consult an attorney about wording, legal effect, or which document or notarial act you need.
