My journey of service began at the age of 18 in Punjab, India. A friend and I shared a simple dream: to give something back to the communities we called home.
The First Steps
We had no roadmap and no experience running a nonprofit. What we had was a willingness to begin. Together, we registered an NGO and took our first steps by donating books and sports kits to four schools.
It was a modest beginning, but it gave our dream a purpose. We wanted children to have more opportunities to learn, play, and build confidence.
At that time, we did not even own a camera. We hired a photographer to capture those early school visits. The photographs on this page preserve those beginnings—the gatherings, the school donations, and the people who joined us.
Looking back, these pictures remind me that meaningful service can begin with a small act. You do not need to have everything figured out before you start. You need to care enough to take the first step.
Those early experiences shaped my belief in seva—selfless service—and the responsibility we share to support one another.
Carrying That Purpose Forward
As my journey continued from Punjab to the United States, my commitment to helping others remained.
That commitment led me to establish Helping Hands for Nations Inc., a Virginia-based nonprofit dedicated to supporting individuals and families in need. The organization carries forward the spirit that inspired those first school donations: compassion, dignity, and practical support.
My vision is to bring volunteers, community partners, and supporters together around a shared purpose. Our focus includes women’s empowerment, youth opportunities, education, and humanitarian assistance.
Everyone deserves to be treated with respect and given opportunities to move forward. Through Helping Hands for Nations, I work to turn that belief into action.
Service Across Communities
My humanitarian journey also includes serving as a Coordinator with Sikhs of America Inc., connecting communities in the United States and India through service. I value the guidance and inspiration of Dr. Jasdip Singh Jassi and the opportunity to work alongside others who share a commitment to helping people.
These experiences continue to remind me that service grows through cooperation. Each person brings something valuable—time, knowledge, encouragement, or resources.
A Message to the Next Generation
To every young person who wants to make a difference: start where you are and use what you have.
At 18, I could not have imagined where those first school visits would lead. But the reason for beginning is still the reason I continue: to help others and contribute to a more caring community.
